An Introduction

Over the last few months, I have been gathering as much information as possible on Public Education. (Mostly pertaining to the United States, but also internationally, since it has seemed to become an "international comparison"). I have done book/ internet research, talked to teachers and administrators, and attended our school budget meetings/ forums. I have also taken into account my personal experiences and how my learning environment has changed over the years. The reason for this? Well, in actuality I have a couple of reasons:

1. School is, and always has been, very important to me. I really love learning. I think that it incredibly valuable, not only for college or a future job, but for overall personal well-being. (If I could get a job as a "professional student" I would totally jump on that opportunity).

2. I attended a Public Education meeting at Skidmore College with one of my friends, and a teacher from my school spoke. He is an incredible speaker, and he shared some of his personal stories, which was very powerful.

3. I was sick and tired of people constantly dropping "Common Core is terrible." and then having no evidence to back it up.-- I have no problem with you feeling one way or another about The Common Core, we all have different opinions, and that's cool...I'm honestly all for different opinions... But please, please have some evidence to support your claim.

4. I want to be able to take topics that are generally "boring" or complicated and relay them to people that just want to know a little bit more without becoming overwhelmed. In layman's terms: I want to make the boring stuff cool.

My aim for this blog is to share all of the information that I have found and the questions that I have in a (relatively) coherent way. I hope to inspire anyone who reads this to look a little bit more into Public Education, or to become more involved in their school and/or community. At the very least, I hope to teach you something new. (Because you learn a new thing everyday, right?)

I have taken, and will continue to take great care in showing all sides of the issue, as to not sway anybody one way or the other, based on my personal biases.

I will try to update this as often as possible and include all different types of media to keep it interesting!

Happy Learning!

Fallon
